Hello again Thunderdome!
This week is going to be quite simple. I want you to write stories which take place over a set period of time.
Yes, stories, plural. Multiple submissions are allowed and welcome this week, for reasons which will become evident shortly.
Each story’s wordcount will be inversely related to the timespan the story covers, as follows:
0–100 words: a year
100–300 words: a month
300–500 words: a day
500–1000 words: an hour
1500+ words: ten minutes
No, there’s no mathematical scale to this, and yes, some of these are going to be much easier to write than others. This is less a brutal challenge and more a way to make you think about how to approach each timespan given the wordcount. Which is why I’d recommend taking on more than one story, if … time permits. (There’s also, you might notice, no maximum wordcount, but I will stop reading when I get bored.)
For the avoidance of doubt, each story can be as separate or connected as you’d like, provided that each story covers the appropriate duration by itself. Feel free to write about the same month from different perspectives, or lots of different drabbles about different years. You’re not confined to using one wordcount for every story you write, and I’d suggest experimenting with a few.
Flashes will be available on request (please nominate the wordcount when requesting). Flashes will be a specific time period, which might be an absolute date+time or something more abstract. Flashes will not impact wordcount.
No erotica, fanfic, AI, google docs, etc.
